Thank you for joining us in the 52 Week Tuneup Challenge ™! This week’s Featured Tuneup™ is “Favorite Things”. Throughout the week we will be sending you special Bonus Tuneups to help you implement this week’s Tuneup Challenge™! Week 3 - Bonus Tuneup #2: The Favorite Things of The Favorite People In Your Life As you created your list of what you love, hopefully it included the people in your life that you love and care for. Part of your relationship also includes acknowledging what is important to them: When is their birthday? What are their favorite foods? What makes then smile? What are their favorite songs? Recently, a dear friend spent the past five months caring for her boyfriend’s Father who was bedridden, a consequence of a stroke after heart surgery. Bob was in a comatose state for about two months, and during that time, his son, Jonathan, remembered his Dad’s favorite things in the hope that he would open his eyes and wake from his slumber. They visited him daily at the hospital, bringing an iPod downloaded with songs by Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and other “Crooners” that he listened to in his youth. He loved the “Rocky” soundtrack, so they played that on a regular basis. There were memories of driving up to the cabin in Marin County in the Chevy pick up, singing Nat King Cole songs together, so one ear bud would be in Bob’s ear, and the other in Jonathan’s, as he sang to his Father as he lay in the hospital. Bob also loved John Wayne movies, so they had some old videos digitized, and played the movies on a portable DVD player. The repertoire also included recordings of the family dogs barking, and voice messages from old work buddies. Jonathan also remembered that his Dad used to wear a fragrance called “Timberline,” so he ordered some online and held it to his Dad’s nose. And for you sushi lovers, Bob loved Saba, or mackerel, so one day they bought some from the Japanese market and held it to his nose as well, in the hope the memory would encourage him to awaken. One day, as the music was playing, there was a tear from Bob’s eyes as he opened them for the first time in many weeks. What an ecstatic moment that was. Bob recently celebrated his 75th birthday, but sadly, transitioned from this life a week ago. He was a remarkable man, and knowing what he loved in life brought him comfort in his last days. So take the time to get to know the Favorite Things of the people you care about. And acknowledge them whenever you can, whether it be gifts, sharing a meal at a favorite restaurant, or singing a song together. Let them know how precious they are to you by celebrating what is important to them. Stay tuned for more Favorite Things. And always remember to “Stay true to who you are.”
