Week 3: Favorite Things

Welcome to Week 3 of the 52-Week Challenge!

An important part of staying true to who you are is honoring and acknowledging what you love and are passionate about in life. There’s a delightful song in the film classic, The Sound of Music, entitled, ”My Favorite Things,” in which the character Maria shares what brings joy to her life. They include: “raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens.” And when she needs a little nudge, she sings:

When the dog bites

When the bee stings

When I’m feeling sad

I simply remember my favorite things

And then I don’t feel so bad.

The focus of this week's Tuneup Challenge is for you to get in touch with YOUR favorite things and explore what is most precious in your life.

Make yourself a cup of tea or prepare a soothing beverage of choice. Grab your journal or a few pieces of paper and a pen, and find a calming area of your home so you can sit in a relaxed and comfortable state and begin capturing what you love.

As you take this time for yourself, revisit moments from the past, current endearing events, and what you would like to embrace in the future on a consistent basis. And know that you can draw from your list at any time to rekindle the happy moments and to use as a form of “therapy” when needed, to help you through challenging times.

When you are ready, just begin writing… and don’t limit yourself. Think of what brings a smile to your face, whether it be a movie, a book, a song, a person, a pet. Capture all that you love. And as you write, feel the emotion of experience all these favorite and joyful elements of your life.
