52 WEEK CHALLENGE Week 6 Bonus #1: Planning For The New Year Setting Goals for 2010 Welcome Back to the 52-Week Challenge Series. In Part One, of Ringing in the New Year, you reviewed 2009. Now it’s time to begin Setting Goals for 2010. In the same state and setting as your 2009 Review, get your pad and pen ready to create a future that is exciting, compelling and in alignment with your values and dreams. Step One: is to do a brainstorm, or “dump” and write down anything you’d like to achieve, produce, create, accomplish, in the next year, three years, five years, ten years and twenty years. Don’t worry about how you will get there or whether it is achievable. Commit it to paper and let the magic begin. So take five to ten minutes, or as long as it takes for you to articulate your thoughts and ideas on paper. You may wish to put on some soothing music, or if it helps fire those neurons, some heavy rock. Begin NOW! Step Two: Go back to each item on your list and determine your time frame to achieve each one. Next to each one, write 1, 3, 5 10 or 20 (years). Step Three: Look at your list again, and select the Top Four One Year Goals. After each, write why you will absolutely meet that goal within the next year. Step Four: Describe who you would need to be in order to accomplish all your desires. Think about what you would need to be believe, what your values need to be, characteristics, who you must be as a person in order to achieve your outcomes. Step Five: Take your Top Four and begin to plan. What action can you take immediately to put them into play? What are actions you can take daily, weekly, monthly, until you have reached your goal(s)? What logistics will it take? Who will you need to help support you? What resources are needed? Follow this process for your longer-term goals as well. Pick the Top Five to Ten that are musts. Step Six: Set up a system to measure your results, whether it is a journal, notes on a calendar, or a time line. Make sure you are set up to win and that you hold yourself accountable. If this is a challenge, enroll a friend or colleague to keep you on track. Step Seven: CELEBRATE each time you achieve a goal. Stay tuned for Week 7 of the 52 Week Challenge: How to Discover Your Voice And remember to stay true to who are you.
