2013 already? Where has the time gone? I was just speaking with a friend and we were talking about the YDLC website. She was sharing with me how one of the videos had dramatically impacted her life and how she thought it was something that I just started recently. As we were talking I went to the archives to see how long it has been since I posted the last article. I knew it had been a while, but had no idea that it has been almost 2 years. June 6, 2011 was the last article that I posted on the site. I had mentioned before that article that I was going to be shifting my focus and would keep people updated, but as I immersed myself in the new ventures that I was working on, and got overwhelmed by some of the issues, opportunities and challenges that arose from those new ventures, my commitment to posting new material fell to the wayside.
Honestly a part of what led to not paying as much attention to the site was partly financial based. Although I love the difference that this site makes in my life and the lives of people who visit it, as far as it being a source of revenue it is not one for me. It actually costs me money each month to have the site live. To host the videos, host the site and the small ancillary costs associated with it I spend around $100 a month just to keep the site up. Since the launch of the site in June of 2009 the site has generated little over $300 in revenue and $200 of that were donations from one individual.
I’m not sharing this as a complaint, if it were an issue I would have taken the site down long ago and saved myself the money on hosting. I’m sharing because as I start sharing what has happened over the past 2 years you will see why my focus was on the other ventures and not as much here on YDLC.
One of the things that has fascinated me though is that with no advertising and no new material being posted to the site the traffic has remained consistent. Every couple of months I would check the traffic stats to see if the site was really worth keeping live and every month there would be an average of 6,000 new visitors every month. And in 2013 already there have been 90,000 page views. And every so often I get a friend request on Facebook or an email thanking me for how something on the site had impacted someone’s life.
So I have continually considered starting to add new material to the site and am now making the commitment to start again. One of the motivations as you will learn in upcoming articles is a new venture that I am working on with a product brokerage and internet marketing company where I am helping people build their businesses and where I am establishing myself as a trainer within the company. Rather than creating a new website I am going to be using YDLC as a resource for this team and I will be adding new content that will not only be directed towards them, but will build on content that is already here.
My intention is to start adding articles again, start creating podcasts rather than videos and to create a members only area for some more detailed and in depth content. I will still be posting content that is free, just the membership area will be for more specific trainings and will be designed to actually allow me to generate some revenue from the site. The monthly fee will be nominal, under $15 a month and I will commit to adding content regularly.
In my next article I will talk about what has transpired over the past two years and bring everyone up to speed. It has been quite a journey and I am sure that you will appreciate why I have not been posting regularly here.
I still can't believe that it's 2013 already... or how much I have missed working on the site. And I look forward to connecting with you all again.< TWS: Cost Of Living A Dual Life
